2008 Membership Renewal
January 2008
Dear Historical Society Member,
The Historical Society remains pro-active and committed to preserving our heritage and improving the quality of life of our Lower Merion and Narberth communities. This leadership role is
accomplished by the work and dedication of our many volunteers.
2007 was a remarkable year, some of the highlights were:
- Our Special Library, the depository of information that chronicles our past, continues to grow in size and scope with more than 41,000 items in the collection.
- Our website is an electronic resource that last year had a worldwide audience of more than 291,700 visitors. Since the launch of our website in August 2002, we have had a total of more
than 797,900 visitors to our virtual library of information.
- Our volunteers were active participants in the programs and lectures that celebrated our 325th Anniversary. We researched and wrote the booklet "Celebrating William Penn's Vision and
the First Welsh Settlement in Lower Merion and Narberth 1682-2007" that had a distribution of 40,000 copies. Also, we were contributors to stories and reports that were published in
books, in local magazines and newspapers, and on local television.
2008 will be another year of growth for the Society. In addition to "what we have always done" we are taking on some new initiatives; such as:
- The stabilization of the Cynwyd Train Station at a cost of $450,000. The historic station will remain an active train station on the R6 line, but will be re-born and incorporated into
the community's open space system that will include the Cynwyd Station Park and the new multiuse recreational Cynwyd Trail.
- Looking ahead, we have accepted the request from the township to be an active participant in the study and development of their Comprehensive Plan. When completed, this forward looking
document will define the future growth and development of the township for the next 25 years.
These are some of the reasons why we ask for your support to help us continue our work. 2008 will be a critical year. Your membership dues help support these various projects and
educational programs.
Remember your dues are fully tax deductible.
