Opening Remarks by Jerry Francis:

"Main Line Today" magazine has selected The Lower Merion Historical Society as the Best Historical Society on the Main Line. We will be featured in their July issue "Best of the Main Line".

Public Access Television is coming to Lower Merion & Narberth. Do you remember the two "public" revolutions that have occurred in Lower Merion?

  • In 1834 Lower Merion "Public" Schools were founded. This started a revolution - an emergence of a middle class; no longer just an upper and a working class community.
  • In 1899 Lower Merion "Public" Libraries were formed. The first library was the Ardmore Free Library founded by the Women's Club of Ardmore. This started a revolution and over time created a socio-economic level playing field.
  • Now in 2006, we're on the verge of another revolution! Lower Merion "Pubic" Access Television - Television BY and FOR the community. "Public" participation has always been a great equalizer; namely, to promote our diverse ethnic, religious and economic community.

Lower Merion & Narberth Public Access Television (PATV), a 501(c)(3) corporation isabout to 'light up' on Comcast tv. Irene McNeill is its Founder and President and imbeddedin the PATV corporation are many LMHS people; such as Perry Hamilton, Nevin Mann,Ross Mitchell, Ken Brier, Mary Jo Pauxtis, and Jerry Francis.

Finally, a thank you to Lynne Kauffman for serving as a Director and her ongoing volunteer work in organizing and scheduling with the School District the Intergenerational Interview Program.
