Lippincott in the 1920s and renamed Sydbury House; Thomas Sears, landscape architect hired to make renovations; William J. McLean, Jr., publisher of the Philadelphia Evening Bulletin, purchased the home and engaged Mellor & Meggs to renovate and alter the house in the late 1930s
